Boore Back to Get More Gold in Salt Lake in 2025
SALT LAKE CITY (July 23, 2025) – Utah saddle bronc rider Allen Boore is looking to add to the trophy case with another gold medal from the Utah Days of ’47 Rodeo presented by Zions Bank. Boore of Axtell took the win on July 23 with an 86.5 point ride on Championship Rodeo’s Damaged Goods.
"It's awesome to come here and ride in the home state,” stated Boore after taking the victory lap around the Utah Days of ’47 Arena. “The family is here so I'm pretty excited to be here.”
Boore, who won the gold in 2022, will be looking to stand atop the medal stand once again on Saturday. He will be joined by Bailey Small of McArthur, California, who took second with an 85.5 on Legacy Rodeo’s Pinto Pass.
The Gold Standard in Rodeo features a total of 400 competitors, who will take their shot at a share of over three-quarters of a million in prize money and a gold, silver or bronze medal that will be awarded on Saturday, July 26. There will be 40 competitors in all the roughstock events (Bareback riding, Saddle Bronc riding and Bull riding) and timed events (Steer Wrestling, Team Roping, Tie-down Roping, Breakaway Roping and Barrel Racing).
It was a very competitive bareback riding on the second night with Jacob Lees landing atop the leaderboard with an 88.5 aboard Sankey Rodeo’s Land of Fancy. Lees of Caldwell, Idaho, held off contenders like Rocker Steiner and Tanner Aus, who tied for second with 85.5 point rides. Steiner of Weatherford, Texas, drew Sankey Rodeo’s Wise General and Aus was aboard Sankey Rodeo’s Stiletto. With only two advancing to the finals the tie breaker went back to the PRCA Playoff Series Standings with Steiner leading the way. Steiner, the current No. 1 bareback rider in the world, will be looking for his first gold medal on Saturday night.
The timed events, excluding barrel racing, is a two-go average with the top two advancing to the final round. The roughstock is a one go with the top two advancing to the gold medal round. The barrel racing is one go with a total of 80 barrel racers – 10 in the morning and 10 during the performance with the top 1 advancing out of each set.
A new arena record was set in the team roping with the final team of the night stopping the clock in 3.5 seconds to not only win the round but earn a spot in the gold medal round on Saturday. The previous record was set last year by Dawson and Dillon Graham with a 3.7. Winning the average to advance as the top team out of the second set was Lightning Aguilera and Wyatt Cox with a 9.5 on two head. Carroll and Lord finished second to advance with a 9.7.
Breakaway roper Aspen Miller wasted no time on Wednesday night stopping the clock in an arena-record tying time of 1.8 seconds. Josie Conner set the arena record in 2022 and now shares that record with Miller who hails from Santa Fe, Texas. After a no time in the first round, she had to go for broke to give herself a shot at the gold medal round. Unfortunately, she fell short as Jordan Jo Hollabaugh took the average win in a time of 14.9 on two and Ryland Lufkin was second with a 15.2 on two head as well. Both cowgirls will be looking for their first gold medal in Salt Lake City.
In the steer wrestling Chance Howard tied for the win of the first round with a time of 3.9 seconds and took third in the evening performance for his second round to land atop the leaderboard with an 8.6 on two to punch his ticket to finals. Howard of Sallisaw, OK, will be joined in the finals by fellow Oklahoman Levi Rudd of Chelsea who took second in the average with a 9.1. Rudd didn’t place in the first round with his 4.8 but was second on Wednesday night with a 4.3.
Scores/times will NOT carry forward to the Gold Medal Round (only to break ties). The eight (8) competitors in each event in the Gold Medal Round will compete in a sudden-death format with the winner collecting a Gold Medal and $18,000 cash.
The two cowboys advancing in the tie-down roping is John Douch and Tom Crouse. Douch of Huntsville, Texas won the first round in a time of 9.6 seconds and returned for the second round with a second place finish stopping the clock with another 9.6 run. He landed atop the aggregate leaderboard with a 19.2 on two head. Crouse of Gallatin, Missouri, won the second round in a time of 9.4 seconds and landed second in the aggregate with a 23.6.
Kassie Mowry secured her spot in the finals during the morning set of barrel racers on Wednesday stopping the clock in the fastest time thus far of 16.99 seconds. This rodeo last year was a major key to Mowry’s 2024 WPRA world championship title and she will be back to defend her title aboard Jarvis. During Pioneer Week in 2024, Mowry won over $37,000 at the rodeos in Salt Lake City, Ogden and Spanish Fork. Julia Johnson of Tenino, Washington, will join Mowry in the finals after winning the Wednesday night performance in a time of 17.22 seconds.
There was only one qualified ride in the bull riding with Hayden Ferguson riding Andrews Rodeo’s Workin Man Blues. For Ferguson of Coldspring, Texas, it was a good working day as he took home all the money on the night totaling $6,000 and advancing to gold medal Saturday.
Action at the Utah Day of ’47 Rodeo continues July 24 at 8 p.m. MT.
Tickets are still available. For more information on the event visit www.utahdaysof47rodeo.com.
