ORIGAMI HORSES FOR HOPE
Utah Days of ’47 Rodeo, Bridle Up Hope and This is the Place rally together to set a Guinness Book of World Record to bring global attention to the mental wellness of Utah girls.
SALT LAKE CITY (May 5, 2022) – Utah nonprofits rally together to set a Guiness Book of World Record and we need all Utah residents to participate and play a role.
The official launch party for Origami Horses for Hope will take place Monday, May 9 at Bridle Up Hope in Alpine, Utah at 6 p.m. MT
The record looking to be broken is for the largest display of origami horses set in March of 2015 in Hong Kong, China. These organizations are asking Utahns to help fold 13,000 origami horses by June 22nd–breaking the Guiness Book of World Record! The success of this campaign will bring global attention to the state of Utah and to the life-changing services provided to Utah girls struggling with mental health issues. This increased awareness will allow for more girls to find hope and to feel the support of their community.
“We are really looking forward to this fun and very meaningful activity. We hope everyone in the area will join us to set a new Guinness Book of World Record,” said Tommy Joe Lucia, General Manager of Utah Days of ’47 Rodeo. “This would make a great activity for the entire family, classroom or club. No previous experience required.”
Origami is the art of paper folding, which is often associated with Japanese culture. In modern usage, the word “origami” is used as an inclusive term for all folding practices, regardless of their culture of origin. Bridle Up Hope and This Is The Place will supply the paper and instructions on how to take a simple piece of paper and turn it into an origami horse. This is a project for all ages and all skill levels. Both locations will collect the finished products and will be on display through the Utah Days of ’47 Rodeo scheduled for July 20-23, 25, 2022 at the Days of ’47 Arena at Utah Fairpark.
Young women are struggling with their mental health like never before, and the pandemic has only accelerated the problem. The result is that too many suffer from low self-worth, depression, and anxiety. Fortunately, Utah has a deep heritage of coming together as a community in times of need. Bridle Up Hope, Utah Days of ‘47 Rodeo, and This is the Place Park are drawing on that rich heritage.
For those unfamiliar with Bridle Up Hope it is an equine facility in Alpine, Utah, designed to transform lives one girl and horse at a time. Their unique Equine-Assisted Learning (EAL) curriculum teaches young women to recognize their inherent worth and potential, and to approach life with correct paradigms of themselves and others. The program combines equestrian training, life skills development, service at the barn, and self-renewal activities.
This Is The Place Heritage Park it is a Utah State Park that is located on the east side of Salt Lake City. The location is where on July 24, 1847, Brigham Young first saw the Salt Lake Valley, which would soon become the new home for the Mormon pioneers. The words, “this is the place,” were soon heard throughout the wagon train as the Mormon pioneers descended into the valley, their long journey having come to an end.
The Utah Days of ’47 Rodeo has become a must stop on the summer rodeo schedule for contestants from the junior high level all the way to the pros of the sport as they vie for Gold, Silver and Bronze medals awarded to the top three, setting this rodeo apart from any other rodeo in the world.
