Field Set For Gold Medal Round in Salt Lake City

SALT LAKE CITY (July 24, 2026) – The final tickets were punched to the Gold Medal round in front of a sold-out crowd on Pioneer Day in Salt Lake City at the 2026 Utah Days of ’47 Rodeo presented by Zions Bank.

Utah’s own Ryder Wright wowed the crowd in the saddle bronc riding posting a 90-point ride on Championship Rodeo’s Heartbreaker. That ride was just 2.5 points off the arena record set in 2023 by four-time world champion Zeke Thurston. Wright will be looking to add the first gold medal to the Wright legacy on Saturday and take it back to the ranch in Beaver. It was a tie for second on the night with Cooper Thatcher and Q Taylor posting 85-point rides but only one would advance to Saturday. Q Taylor won the tiebreaker which went back to world standings where he is ranked sixth.

The Gold Standard in Rodeo has featured a total of nearly 400 competitors, who have battled it out for their shot at a share of over three-quarters of a million in prize money and a gold, silver or bronze medal that will be awarded on Saturday, July 25. There have been 40 competitors in all the events competing this week in bareback riding, steer wrestling, team roping, saddle bronc riding, tie-down roping, breakaway roping, barrel racing and bull riding.

Grabbing the final two spots in the bareback riding were No. 1 ranked bareback rider Bradlee Miller and Taylor Broussard both posting 86-point rides on Friday night. Miller matched up with Ward Macza ProRodeo’s Side Show, while Broussard drew Diamond G Rodeo’s Hella Bella. Both will be spurring for gold on Saturday night at the Days of ’47 Arena in downtown Salt Lake City.

The timed events, excluding barrel racing, are a two-go average with the top two advancing to the final round. The roughstock has been a one go with the top two advancing to the gold medal round. The barrel racing has been a one go with a total of 40 barrel racers with the top two advancing each night to the gold medal round.

Another Utah contestant landed atop the leaderboard in the barrel racing to earn her spot in gold medal Saturday. McKenna Coronado of Kanarraville stopped the clock in 17.03 seconds, just edging Gracen Harman who finished in 17.08 seconds. Both will be back on Saturday to see if they can earn a spot on the medal stand.

Scores/times will NOT carry forward to the Gold Medal Round (only to break ties). The eight (8) competitors in each event in the Gold Medal Round will compete in a sudden-death format with the winner collecting a Gold Medal.

Gold medal action at the Utah Day of ’47 Rodeo kicks off July 25 at 8 p.m. MT.
